Hikari Akizawa is a faculty member of Chuo University, a large private university in Tokyo, established in 1885. Her research interests are in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial family business. She is the only professor teaching entrepreneurship program in the university.
Her academic background includes an MBA from Graduate School of Business Science at University of Tsukuba (1991), and a Ph.D. from Department of Value and Decision Science at Tokyo Institute of Technology (1999). Her master’s thesis was about the organizational learning in large corporations. Thereafter, her academic interests moved to entrepreneurship through her consulting experiences for entrepreneurial firms. Her doctoral thesis was on the entrepreneurial networking. In 2008 – 2009 she spent a one year sabbatical at HEC Montreal where she worked on two of her specialty areas: entrepreneurship and family business.
Dr. Akizawa has broad professional experiences in the field of entrepreneurship, organizational learning, and knowledge management. She was a management consultant with Tohmatsu & Co. in Tokyo which was a member firm of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Dr. Akizawa has been a professor of entrepreneurship and knowledge management at Chuo University since 2000. She also gave lectures on entrepreneurship at four universities, Bunkyo Gakuin University in 1999 and 2000, Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2000 and 2001, Waseda University in 2003, and University of Electro-Communications from 2002 to 2005.
Dr. Akizawa has many publications about knowledge management and entrepreneurship including several book chapters. Articles are grounded on Japanese cases and mostly written in Japanese.
