Cahier 92-04-01 – Evaluating Firm’s Strategies in Polish Markets

Résumé : ln this paper we discussw hether the privatization of state-owned monopolies is needed to foster the growth of new private ventures in Poland and to ensure the success of the reforms in that country. We thus examine the characteristics and strategies of 40 Polish firms and contrast the potential for growth and the behaviour of new Polish businesses and state-owned monopolies. We find that the arguments in favour of privatization are very weak. We recommend that the govemment encourage collaboration between the private and the public sectors.
