Thursday October 1st

Overview: This session will address the state of research and practice in energy and the environment and the challenges that lay ahead. Sustainable development is likely one of the greatest challenges facing the Canadian business and society. Without it, our health and welfare are threatened. This session will be organized in three segments. In each session, the panelists will each provide a 10 minute overview. These presentations will be followed by questions from the moderator and the audience. Each of the panelists have been carefully selected and truly are leaders in their field.

State of the Art in Energy and Environment (10:30 am to 12 pm)

Speakers:

Summary

These panelists are academic leaders in energy and environment. Drawing mainly from a management and policy perspective, each panelist will review the areas that they believe have received academic attention and areas that require more attention.



State of Practice in Energy and Environment (1:30 to 3 pm)

Summary

These panelists are business leaders in sustainability practice. They are each drawn from the energy sector, but they have truly pushed the envelope on all environmental issues. They will offer comments on areas in which the practice of business sustainability has been exemplary and areas that could benefit from greater commitment.



Challenges and Opportunities (3:30 to 5 pm)

These panelists have had the opportunity to develop a ‘helicopter’ perspective on sustainability – watching how others react to these issues. They can provide insights on the challenges and opportunities both in terms of research and practice in sustainability.
