Entrepreneurship
| Bilingual workshop with no simultaneous translation |
Wednesday September 30th
Introduction: In Canada, as in most industrialized nations, new businesses are responsible for over 85% of the new jobs created in the last 20 years. Governments have enacted policies to encourage the creation and growth of new businesses. Furthermore, universities and schools have introduced programs, courses, and mentoring to foster entrepreneurship among students and professors. All of these efforts are backed by relevant research. The objective of this workshop is to gain a better understanding of the impact of these efforts on Canada’s economic development, and to see what could be done to boost the socioeconomic benefits of entrepreneurial activity.

Abstract
Entrepreneurship research and writing has grown at remarkable pace since 1975. This growth is reflected in the increase over the period in the number of (i) journals dedicated to the subject, (ii) papers on the topic, (iii) emerging sub-subjects (for example, social entrepreneurship), and (iv) entrepreneurship articles appearing in top management journals (for example, the Journal of the American Academy of Management). This presentation will examine these trends in depth.
