Overview: This session will focus on the current state of the art in business ethics research and application, drawing on the experience and expertise of university researchers, business practitioners and informed commentators.

State of the Art in Ethics and How that Translates to Business (9:15 to 10:45 am)

Abstract

The opening addresses will examine the philosophical underpinnings of ethics, current issues and principles and the applications of those principles to business situations. The question of what is the basic moral orientation of ethical leaders that makes their behavior “ethical” will be examined, along with the issue of what are the stumbling blocks to ethical behavior?

Pauchant will give further perspectives on ethics, sharing some practical examples of the application of ethics in business, drawing on their direct business experience and the results of interviews with Canadian business leaders who have introduced innovative ethical practices and tools into their organizations.
